It was completely a one-sided game,as Nigeria dominated from the start of the game till the end; as early as the fourth minute, the goal-fest started with Chinwendu Ihezuo getting to end of a cross to bury home Nigeria’s opener for the game.
It did not take long before Halimat Ayinde made it 2-0 after just eight minutes. The one-way traffic continued, and within two minutes Nigeria added two more goals to make it four.
The impressive Yakubu who constantly marauded the Azerbaijan’s left back, made it three while Tessy Biahwo scored the fourth goal.
Nigeria scored an additional three goals going into the break to make 7-0,with Ihezuo already getting a hat-trick.
The second half began in similar fashion for Nigeria, and it did not take long for Ihezuo to get her fourth of the game and subsequent goals from substitute Joy Bokiri and Biahwo ensured that Nigeria gave the host country a demoralising 11-0 defeat.
The five goals Ihezuo got in the game elevated her goals tally in the competition to six goals and she is now in contention for the golden boot award.
Azerbaijan only had one shot on target through out the game as against Nigeria’s 28 shots on target, and the Asian country hardly troubled Nigeria’s goalkeeper Gift Andy who barely touched the ball in the second half.
Nigeria with that scoreline equalled the 11-0 record South Korea has, over fellow Africans Gambia.
The Flamingoes needs just a draw in their last group game against Colombia to advance to the next round.
